As you may know on Monday the 21st a solar eclipse will be visible for North America. LAUSD is taking special precautions to make this unique phenomena safe for our students. First, only students who bring back a signed permission slip tomorrow, will be allowed to participate in any eclipse related outdoor activity. Only NASA approved eye-wear will be allowed. Unfortunately there is a shortage of this eye-wear, so most classrooms will see the eclipse on their computer. Secondly, there can be no outside activity between 9-12pm tomorrow. Thirdly, Students who need to leave class to go to the bathroom, must be escorted by an adult to prevent them from looking directly at the sun. This unsafe behavior could result in permanent eye damage. Please discuss this with your child. Classroom changes have been made to facilitate closer proximity to bathrooms. I have all staff reporting early tomorrow to assist in this endeavor and I am asking for parent volunteers for either 8:30-9:00 or 9-12:00pm. We are also going to have 1 recess from 8:30-8:50, right after Breakfast in the classroom. For lunch, we will be on our Rainy Day schedule, lunch will be inside the classrooms for students and staff will go into rooms to relieve teachers for a 30 minute lunch. I have outlined the specific procedures in a separate email. If we don’t have your email, please call the office so that we can add you for next week. Starting today, I will be attaching a weekly parent bulletin to Sunday’s email recipients for all parents to make sure you are well-informed about all things Nestle.
You will also receive a recorded message on Sunday the 20th from our superintendent, Michelle King regarding the solar eclipse.
